Our mission is centered around saving the lives of children suffering from Congenital Heart Defects (CHD) in Lebanon. We ensure access to the best medical treatment available through our partnership with the Children's Heart Center (CHC) at the American University of Beirut Medical Center (AUBMC).

Our impact

Since Brave Heart was established in 2003, we’ve saved the lives of over 4,300 children diagnosed with Congenital Heart Defects (CHD), with a yearly average of 250 surgeries and interventional procedures in the past ten years.
With an average of USD 5,000 spent on life-saving medical procedures, Brave Heart has used the resources it has been entrusted with as efficiently as possible.

We’ve maintained 0% overheads during our first 6 years, and are currently operating at 6% overheads, which are covered solely by our generous donors. Through our ongoing commitment to our mission, we nurture and empower the growth of future generations, as we enable underprivileged children to become active and efficient members of society.

Our Approach

Every 12 hours, a child in Lebanon is diagnosed with Congenital Heart Disease (CHD). Unfortunately, many of the families of these children are compelled to postpone their surgeries due to a lack of resources.
Brave Heart aims to provide an immediate funding source for underprivileged children whose families qualify for financial aid at the American University of Beirut Medical Center (AUBMC) Social Services department, without any discrimination and regardless of gender, race, ethnicity, nationality, or religious affiliation. By securing timely and immediate financial aid, we give underprivileged children the chance to undergo the needed surgery without any delays or obstacles that could have an impact on their health.

Brave Hearts abides by a strict 100% donation policy: we promise our donors that 100% of their donations go towards saving a child’s life. We entrust the AUBMC Social Services department with assessing the families who are eligible for financial aid.

To ensure that children with heart disease receive the best treatment available, we’ve partnered with the AUBMC’s Children's Heart Center (CHC). The CHC is the leading heart center in the region, and is comparable to the best heart centers in the United States.

Throughout all stages of treatment, we stand by the children as their health guarantors. We provide them with the financial assistance and medical care that they need, whenever they need it, and try, to the best of our capacities, to ease the burden on their families.

Our Disbursement Method

Brave Heart provides immediate funding for children whose families qualify for financial aid at the American University of Beirut Medical Center (AUBMC). Financial assistance is granted directly to the Children’s Heart Center (CHC), based on negotiated preferential rates for surgeries and expenses. When and if available, the State (Lebanese Ministry of Public Health (MOPH) or the National Social Security Fund (NSSF)) covers a portion of the medical expenses for Lebanese children, UN agencies assist non-Lebanese children with partial compensation, and Brave Heart settles the residual amount.
